Discovery Communications is buying Scripps Networks for $14.6 billion, 70% in cash and 30% stock. The deal (if/when shareholder and regulators approve) will combine Scripps’ largely female audience (HGTV, Travel Channel and Food Network) with Discovery’s predominantly male viewers (Animal Planet and Discovery Channel).
